Representative of EUEA, Wolfram Rehbock at the Adam Smith conference “2nd annual Ukrainian Energy Forum”

On March 1st Wolfram Rehbock, member of the board, made a speech at the Adam Smith conference “2nd annual Ukrainian Energy Forum” in Kyiv.

In his presentation about “Energy Strategy: Quo vadis Ukraine?” Wolfram stressed the importance of having a clear strategy for a long period which weights and considers several vectors like sustainability, prevention of climate change, clean environment, efficient competition and many other points. Against the mainstream of the Forum, which was more about oil and gas, Mr. Rehbock drew attention of the audience on the enormous biomass potential of Ukraine which could, given a efficient use, cover the energy needs of Ukraine (with additional potential even for export), even not affecting the food sector.

EUEA Member of the Board Mr.Nikolai Troitsky spoke at the 2nd International Forum on Eco-friendly and Energy Efficient Construction e3forum held on February 23-24, 2011, in the International Exhibition Centre.

 e3forum deals with topical issues of development and management of territories, the problems of innovation and technological movement of society and the construction industry in the direction of creating a comfortable, safe, environmentally and energy efficient environment. It begins a public-private partnership in energy efficient and green building in Central and Eastern Europe.

Representative of EUEA, Wolfram Rehbock, attended the 2nd Renewable Energy Finance and Infrastructure Summit in Vienna on February 24.-25. Speakers, panelists and audience actively discussed legal and financial frameworks in CEE region.

Notwithstanding the particular conditions in all the countries many common issues were addressed, like grid access and reasonable pricing. In any case there is a common sense that there is no alternative for a total turn around towards renewable energies.

EUEA Members participated in the discussion “On amendments to Laws of Ukraine concerning renewable energy sources”

On February 25, 2011 EUEA Members participated in the discussion of the proposed changes and amendments to the draft Law “On amendments to Laws of Ukraine concerning renewable energy sources”, prepared by State agency on energy efficiency and energy saving.
The discussion was organized by the Commission on green investments, alternative and renewable sources of energy of ICC Ukraine and Entrepreneurship Council under Cabinet of Minister’s. EUEA was represented by Dave Young, Chairman, Members of the Board – Julia Shevchuk, Vitaly Poplavsky, Loic Lerminiaux and member companies representatives.

€90 million Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership Fund begins operation Fund to promote energy savings in Ukraine and other eastern European countries

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy Andriy Klyuyev and EBRD Vice-President Jan Fischer have signed an agreement on a €10 million contribution by Ukraine to the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund. The signing of the Contribution Agreement with Ukraine will now allow E5P to start operations and provide grant funding to Ukraine as well as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova, where high energy intensity is widespread and there remains wide scope for efficiency improvement across all economic sectors.

First joint meeting of EUEA and Ukrainian Building Association

UBA 1On 22nd February 2011 EUEA held first joint meeting with Ukrainian Building Association aimed at presenting some energy efficient technologies for construction industryMr Serhiy Grabar, Director of UBA, Mr. Rotov Aleksandr, VicePresident of the Ukrainian Building Association and Mr. Dave Young, Chairman of the Board of the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency opened the event.Surprisingly the event generated much more interest among representatives of media than those of construction companies. Which in turn proves the potential for development of new trends in construction with growing demand for energy efficient solutions.
