Wind and solar generated 10.3% of global electricity for the first time in 2021, rising from 9.3% in 2020<\/p>\n<p>\u2714\ufe0f We would like to share with you the infographic based on data from\u00a0Ember\u00a0that shows the rise of wind and solar electricity over the last decade. Wind and solar generate over a tenth of the world\u2019s electricity. Taken together, they are the fourth-largest source of electricity, behind coal, gas, and hydro. Moreover, RES provides great potential for lower prices and for energy independence on fossil fuels in the short and long term.<\/p>\n<p>\u26a1\ufe0fAccording to IEA, the new RES capacity is expected to exceed 300 GW worldwide this year. Furthermore, REPowerEU includes a proposal to raise the 2030 target for the share of renewables in final energy consumption to 45%.<\/p>\n<p>\u26a1\ufe0fIn fact, 50 countries (26%) generated over a tenth of their electricity from wind and solar in 2021. Denmark and Uruguay achieved 52% and 47% respectively, leading the way in technology for high renewable grid integration.
