EU Advises not to Trust “Gazprom” Commitment

news

newsThe EU believes it might be problematic for “Gazprom” to play according to the rules if it becomes the owner of the Ukrainian gas-transport system. This was stated by Director of the Energy Community Secretariat (ES) Janez Kopac, at a press conference during the 4th European-Ukrainian Energy Day.

“The question of possible pipelines purchase by “Gazprom” is an internal decision of Ukraine. We can not comment on it. If the rules are met, no matter who will be the owner. However, I believe that, based on past experience of relations with “Gazprom”, it can be problematic”- said Janez Kopac.

The Director of the Secretariat of ES also said he did not see anything wrong if the pipe system will remain the property of the state. “This situation in many countries – EU member states, I would say in the majority. Infrastructure should be publicly owned or controlled by the state, because it is a monopoly, “- said Janez Kopac.
