Energy poplar is to replace gas in Lviv region. Sokal district administration held a meeting with a representative of Bioproekt-K LLC (representative of French investors in Ukraine). Legal procedure of 200 hectares land plot obtaining in the area to grow energy poplar was main point to discussion during the meeting. Bioproekt-K LLC already rents 150 acres of reserve lands under Korchivskoyi village council subordination. Source
Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Protection and Nuclear Safety of Germany plans to support pilot bioenergy projects in Ukraine. This was announced by Yvonne Lindenlaub, referent on cooperation with Russia, Ukraine and Central Asia during the meeting within the educational program for professionals in the field of climate and energy that is currently taking place in Germany. “Renewable energy is the area that we would like to support. There is a large bioenergy potential in Ukraine. There are many organizations in Ukraine that could support these projects. Together with local the Ministry of Agriculture and State Agency for Energy Efficiency we plan to enhance pilot projects in order to ensure the use of bioenergy and its access to the grid, “- she said. However, it was noted that the German Ministry will concentrate its activities mainly in the western regions of Ukraine, Lviv district in particular. Source

Generating power from biogass is the objective of a latest project developed by Ecoprod, the largest agribusiness player in Ukraine’s Donbass region, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The financing package includes a seven-year loan of €3.1 million and a 15-year loan of €1.1 million from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF). Source
