EUEA Board Member took part in the Business Decarbonisation Dialogue

Yesterday, 15 December 2021, an open dialogue on decarbonisation to discuss rapid and early reductions in emissions was held, jointly organized by the British Embassy Kyiv, the Office of the National Investment Council and the law firm Kinstellar.

The event aimed to bring together business associations, politicians and government, IFIs, businesses and others for an effective dialogue about: balanced and sustainable development, best practices to accelerate the transition to zero carbon, and develop replicable net zero approaches in business and beyond.

Olexiy Parkhomchuk, EUEA Board Member, Director of the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), also took part and noted:

«We are still acquiring new knowledge of decarbonization and learn how to integrate this new knowledge in Ukraine. This is exactly what our association is for – to bring together companies and help them built their awareness and what they should and need to do on the way to decarbonization. So, looking to some more recent events of the association, we conducted a great workshop on Guaranties of Origin certificates for energy. And using these certificates can help generating companies achieve additional profits and it can also help exporting companies to prove the point that they follow EU requirements and make their export competitive and profitable. As an association we are looking for other countries models in the energy sector. There are very good examples from India: there are companies, that generate electricity from the rooftop solar panels and at the same time they have wind generation capacities and they build energy storages. And they make it as a single complex, which allows them to sell and operate electricity 24/7. And it may be considered farfetched in Ukraine because of the current legislation, but it is not as hard as it may seem. The good news is that we know where we are going. What we are missing is the integrated knowledge. And the business associations help to integrate that knowledge, help their members and participants to come up consorted and unified plans».

Also among the participants of the panel were representatives of: the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Office of Reform Support at the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, DTEK, Naftogaz, Shell, Clean Energy Group.
