Euro-Atlantic Forum entitled “Ukraine and the EU on the Brink of a New Association Agreement: Free Trade, Energy Security and Democracy” took place in Kyiv on January 25-26.
Petro Poroshenko (Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine), Nico Lange (director of Ukraine program and Kyiv office of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation), Friedbert Pflueger (director of the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security at King’s College London) and Steven Larrabee (Distinguished Chair in European Security at the Rand Corporation) opened the event.
Ukrainian and foreign experts expressed their opinions on the strategic importance of the Agreement, the FTA and the Energy Secutiry of Ukraine. Thus in the energy panel section, Slavtcho Neykov, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat in Vienna, emphasized that cooperation is the principal development trend in the energy field. Among other discussed energy issues were the main factors in EU-Ukraine Energy cooperation within the new agreement and inside of the European Energy Community, possible EU’s participation in Ukrainian gas transit system consortium and how Ukraine can improve European Energy Security.
