On 9 th June at 12:00 at Kyiv International Convention Center Parkovy (Parkova road, 16a, Kyiv) a joint press conference of the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency, the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, and Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy will be held on the theme «Investment Collapse or Green Compromise – which way does Ukraine choose?».
Over the past 9 months, Ukraine’s policy on the development of renewable energy has degraded from the most favorable to the completely unacceptable to attract investment. An industry in which more than $ 10 billion was involved, of which almost a third were provided by foreign investors. And now the state declares its intention to abandon its obligations and actually puts an end to the implementation of Ukraine’s green transition program to 2050.
To date, negotiations are underway between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and Investors in Renewable Energy Sources (RES) to resolve the state debt problem to the renewable energy sector and the restructuring of “green” tariffs. Despite the difficult negotiation process, representatives of industry associations – renewable energy producers and international investors express hope for compromises with the Government and the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine.
Realizing the critical situation in the energy sector, complicated by the coronavirus pandemic, investors in renewable energy are ready to make concessions, help Ukraine return to the path of economic growth, and maintain the country’s investment attractiveness in the international arena. Investors in RES noted this in official letters to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy from 29.05.2020, to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Acting Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Olga Buslavets from 20.05.2020.
At the same time, given the complexity of the energy problem, the solution of which will require coordinated actions of the Government, the National Bank of Ukraine, NEURC and the Verkhovna Rada, investors in renewable energy consider it necessary to contact the President of Ukraine and inform the public about the results of all previous negotiations with government representatives, as well as about possible the consequences of prolonging the negotiation process or the lack of compromise for the energy, financial and industrial sectors of the economy of Ukraine.
