Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine considers the sale of the gasoline with at least 5% bioethanol component to be impossible in Ukraine from 1 January 2014. This is stated in a letter to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Among the key challenges identified are following: lack of domestic production of bioethanol for the implementation of the law on the mandatory use of bio-component and inflated price for bioethanol produced in Ukraine.
As noted in a letter, by the end of 2013 GE Ukrspirt has not received requests from gasoline traiders for the supply of bioethanol and its components. Oil traders responded that now the price of ethanol (from 11 500 UAH/t) is not economically justified and is almost equal to the wholesale price of gasoline (A-92, A-95), which eliminates the economic incentives facing the addition of bioethanol and higher prices for petroleum products.
