Yesterday, on May 12, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine. The government portal reports that such changes are forced resource norms and aimed to balance budget revenues. However, the mass media informs that this draft law should introduce an excise tax on the sale of “green” electricity from 3.2% to 40% (the exact rate is still being discussed).

The European-Ukrainian Energy Agency (EUEA) opposes such amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine, and has previously sent a joint letter with leading associations in the RES sector to finalize the draft law. After all, the proposed changes will actually further reduce the “green” tariff, which in turn will contribute to an unfavorable investment climate, more arbitration lawsuits and higher market prices for clean energy.
