events calendarThe Roundtable “Energy future of Ukraine: energy-effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability?took place on 13 September, 2012, and was supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation Office in Ukraine together with the National Ecological Centre of Ukraine, NGO «Ecoclub» (Rivne) and the Kyiv International Energy Club «Q-Club».

Olena Rybak, director of the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency, was the moderator of the Panel discussion: “Dilemma in energy priorities development in Ukraine: nuclear generation or renewable energy sources?”. Among the participants of the discussion were: Tobias Myunhmayyer, expert on climate and nuclear power, Greenpeace, Berlin, Germany; Georgiy Geletukha, scientific technical centre «Biomasa», Kyiv; Konstiantyn Zapaischykov, director of the Centre on cooperation with State authorities and stock energy markets, advisor of the Energoatom President, NNEGC, Kyiv; Oleksandr Narbut, an independent energy expert, Kyiv and others.

The participants debated the pros and cons of nuclear and renewable energy, discussed the latest political decision of Germany and its possible impact on the rest of the world, estimated the biomass potential in Ukraine and considered the possible active involvement of civil society into the process of energy market reform of Ukraine.
