Today, April 21, 2021, EUEA sent a letter to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine with proposals and recommendations on the implementation of solar PV waste management mechanism based on the speakers’ speeches of the EUEA webinar “Solar PV waste management in Ukraine”, that was held on March 25, 2021.

In particular, the following proposals were mentioned:

  • to promote the development and adoption of relevant legislation in Ukraine to control the solar PV waste management on the basis of EU Directive 2012/19 on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment;
  • to give a clear definition of the concept “solar photovoltaic waste” and include it to the current National Waste Management Strategy in Ukraine until 2030;
  • to introduce the “principle of extended producers responsibility”;
  • to consider the possibility of developing a common roadmap for the management of all types of waste in Ukraine.

It is important to mention, that the relevance of the topic solar PV waste management for Ukraine is growing every year, and in order to implement the best European practices, it is necessary to start acting today.
